O2 Young Voices Choir Concert

8th February 2014

53 of the older members of the School Choir attended the Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena last Friday. It was a very long, tiring but exciting day! The children left school at 11.30am ready for a three hour afternoon rehearsal with the 7000 other children taking part in the concert. After a well deserved break for a rest and some-thing to eat, the audience started to file into the Arena and tension mounted until the lights went down and the enthusiastic screaming commenced.

On the programme was a range of very varied music including some traditional English folk songs, the Hallelujah Chorus and the children’s favourite, the pop medley. When the children were not singing they were entertained by some excellent professional musicians and dancers, including celebrity Stacey Solomon. If you were in the audience you may also have spotted Mr. Bornman (he’s quite hard to miss!) singing with the Teachers’ Choir in the middle section of the Lord’s Prayer.

Learning the songs and the dance moves has been a challenging but extremely rewarding experience. Many thanks to the children and staff who have given up lunchtimes as well as attending extended after school rehearsals in order to ensure a perfect performance. I am sure this has been an experience which will stay with the children for the rest of their lives.
