Religious Education

We expect every child to become religiously literate. Our curriculum ensures children experience ‘life in all its fullness’ as they journey with us and make their own choices and decisions concerning religion and belief based on an understanding of different religions, worldviews, beliefs, values and practices.

At our school, we want pupils to enquire into and engage with questions rooted in the three disciplines of Religious Education: Theology, Philosophy, and Human and Social Sciences. Through this approach, pupils explore and investigate both content and context, developing deep thinking about religious and non-religious beliefs and worldviews.

Our approach to R.E is to encourage pupils to interpret and analyse sacred texts, using challenging questions, extended pieces of writing and discussion which continually asks, ‘Have we gone deep enough yet?’ We grapple with complex theological concepts, questions and issues to understand the concepts being explored and the impact it has on the believer; what difference does this belief or practice make to their lives? The aim of this part of enquiry is to encourage dialogue about the learning and analytical and evolutional skills with the ability to reflect upon their learning and understanding.

Our pupils will leave school equipped with the ability to have a balanced and well-informed conversation about religion and worldviews. Pupils will be able to reflect, respond and express their own religious, spiritual and/or philosophical convictions. Pupils will be able to make their own choices and decisions concerning religion and belief based on a deep knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious beliefs and worldviews, belief systems, values and practices. Pupils will leave our school richly religiously literate, with a deep understanding of what it means to live life in all its fullness.

Withdrawing from R.E.: Every child in England has a right to religious education, which forms a necessary part of a broad and balanced curriculum. However, parents have the right to choose to withdraw their child from R.E. in school and provide an alternative R.E. syllabus. If you would like more information about this, please contact the school
