Cedar (Year 4)

Cedar's new topic is Traders and Raiders, we have been learning about the Anglo-Saxons and how they travelled to England from the Netherlands and Germany by longships. We have worked with our partner to make our own longships, taking into consideration the shape and style of the boat which needed to be versatile, built for speed and able to negotiate the English coastline ready for invasion!

To mark the end of our Raiders and Traiders topic we have on display our rune invitations, Anglo-Saxon houses, purses, jewellery, clay pots and beads, Viking weaving, charms and weaponry.
Cedar class travelled back in time to the year 1066 this week. The children received a letter from Edward I on his death-bed. The letter asked the children to solve a constitutional crisis; Edward having left no apparent heir to the English throne. The children needed to decide which of the four contenders deserved to be crowned King and having listened to each of their arguments, the Witan Council made their decision and William The Conqueror (aka Luke!) was crowned King!
