Year 5 Floating Classroom trip

17th September 2015
Year 5 were extremely fortunate with the weather when they visited the "Floating Classroom" on 17th September.  The sun shone for most of the day and the children enjoyed looking at the wildlife along the banks of the canal while travelling at a leisurely pace on the Ellsdale II.  The original Ellsdale boat literally was a floating classroom for children of barge owners in Victorian times.  On Ellsdale II, Sycamore Class found out about the importance of the canal to the local brick making industry.  They investigated the best shape for a canal boat which needed to carry bricks and also discovered just how heavy the clay moved around in the brick works by local children was.  For more photos, please see the Gallery section of the website.
